In Pickens, South Carolina a 43-year-old woman has been charged with giving a 14-month-old child lethal doses of Oxycodone. On Oct. 17 the coroner’s initiated an investigation surrounding the infant's death. The infant was found dead in the woman's house. The woman name is Angela Denise Brewer she was the grandmother and caretaker of the baby. Brewer is going to trial for Murder and her jury is being selected. Her trial will begin December 18. Oxycodone was found in a nearby sippy cup that's used to feed the baby. This story is very horrible. The baby was pronounced dead after arriving at the local emergency department. The coroners found 2700 ng/ml of oxycodone in his system. A very high dose for an infant to be ingesting. Since 1999, 200,000 people have died from overdoses connected to OxyContin , and similar prescription drugs. 64,000 people have died in drug overdose last year, that's more people that AIDS, car accidents, and gun violence. The crisis puts most pain clinics and Hospitals in a tough situation. On one hand you have people that are in chronic pain and can't go without medication. Every healthcare provider is strategically trying to reduce the amount of people with addictions because the death tolls aren’t getting any better. It's an alarming rate of opioid deaths in New York City right now. I've created plenty of articles attempting breaking down opioids and it's addictive qualities. Even the president of the United States understands how much of an epidemic these synthetic drugs conjure. In New York for the first half of 2017, 711 people have died from overdoses. officials believe 82% of those deaths related to opioids . In 2016, 1374 people have died from overdoses. That basically means the rates are slowly increasing and averaging out at about 1400 deaths a year between five boroughs that make up New York. The first opioid court in my opinion looks like a great idea for the legal justice system. Nothing like giving a immediate response to drug users that have real abusive habits concerning drugs. Drug addictions has ended to many lives, and it's time for a change. I see nothing better than to have a judge face-to-face on a regular basis that can help improve recovery. Looks like a very positive thing, instead of inflicting more and more punishment on addictive personalities "Opioid Court" can be a great answer. In Indiana a man shot and killed a doctor for not prescribing his wife " Prescription Opioids ". Hours after finding out that the doctor didn't prescribe the medicine the horrific event begin. After shooting the doctor twice he shot and killed himself. Drugs such as Oxycotin, Oxycodone, and Methadone are used to help relieve pain in patients for all type of illnesses and surgeries. Details on the actual medication isn't revealed.
